About this resource

Maplecroft.eu is a documentation archive focused on woodland management practices and tree nursery operations in Italy. It grew from a series of field surveys conducted between 2019 and 2024 in the Apennine range, the pre-Alpine valleys of Trentino, and the hill zones of central Italy.

The scope is deliberately narrow: mixed broadleaf woodland dominated by maple and hornbeam species, coppice management systems on privately held land, and the nursery supply chain that supports forest restoration. There is no coverage of commercial timber forestry at an industrial scale, nor of ornamental horticulture.

Editorial approach

Articles are written to describe conditions as they exist, not to advocate for any particular management model. Where figures are cited, sources are named. Where observations are the author’s own, they are labelled as such. The aim is a record that is useful to forest owners, researchers, and anyone with a practical interest in central Italy’s woodland landscape.

All dates shown on article pages indicate the most recent substantive revision. Minor corrections (typographic, factual) are made without note. Significant changes are noted in the article text.
